I had the privilege to attend the grand opening of Neonopolis thanks to reading about it in John Katsilometes’s column in the Las Vegas Review-Journal (only way to keep up with the happenings in Vegas…) I was thrilled to be part of the crowd watching the ribbon-cutting ceremony with Mayor Carolyn Goodman and Neonopolis owner Rohit Joshi. I had time in the morning to watch the amazing life story of Rohit at https://youtu.be/UYchuPDD08Q. WATCH THIS VIDEO – it is inspirational and a tribute to this remarkable entrepreneur. He must know everyone who is anyone in Vegas, Beverly Hills, Oregon, India, etc. – especially the International shopping center crowd. He called several new shops owners and VIP’s up to the microphone, including his very own charming “event planner” Britni Shields! They all did a great job explaining this cool new venue.
I have to say that Mayor Carolyn Goodman gave a great presentation – I personally love the way she stands up for Las Vegas, knows the history, businesses, and what is right for our economy NOW! She does not mess around and I always want to cheer her on: YOU GO GIRL! See my video of her speech below.
I toured the Hate League, The Axehole, The Watch Shop, and was so excited to see that my favorite long time Dallas restaurant – Dick’s Last Resort – will be opening this spring – can’t wait. OK, truth be told, I am over 60 so really had no clue about the appeal of some of these shops but I can’t wait to show off Neonopolis to my 17 year old nephew and 25 year old son. They are literally going to flip out on the skydiving ride where they fling you through the air, the axe and knife throwing with the HOT guides who teach you to “unleash your inner viking”, the video game parlor, Cat’s Meow, Karaoke, dining, and of course – for my friends who need a shotgun wedding – THE LITTLE NEON CHAPEL !!! I’m Looking forward to visiting again soon to see all of the newly opened businesses.
There were so many things that I could not see or watch during the “virtual” CES trade show. I love this summary by Don Southerton – it really tells us what the heck we should have been paying attention to! Cheers to next year’s January 5-8 show LIVE FROM LAS VEGAS !!!!! http://www.ces.tech
| The 2021 All Digital Consumer Electronics Show—CES Trends and Take-aways By Don Southerton Last year at Consumer Electronics Show (CES) held annually in Las Vegas, Nevada there were over 4,000 exhibitors and more than 170,000 attendees. This year, with the event gone virtual, there are about half that number of exhibitors. Many big companies that in the past dominated the exhibit space opted out of CES 2021. Still, the companies that did participate showcased many new, innovative products and something for everyone. Surveying the CES Show’s exhibitors and media coverage three trends stand out: Trend 1 EVs and Autonomous, 5G & Smart CitiesDespite some top auto manufacturers not participating in the show, EV and AV has been the hot topic at the Show, as well as for those suppliers engaged in EV and AV technology. For 2021, along with autonomous vehicles and electrification, technologies included cellular vehicle-to-everything (C-V2X) and mobility-as-a-service (MaaS). Many of these technologies will be driven by the advancement in 5G networks, and overlaying 5G in smart cities.Bottom Line:With the upcoming Biden administration strongly promoting EV and Mobility solutions—companies large and small see a huge upside. Trend 2 Technology Blending Work & Personal LivesTied to COVID, numerous vendors have showcased products that bridge the gap between work and personal lives. For the past year many have been working out of home offices, and that trend probably isn’t going to go away. With many working from home, some of the biggest innovations in 2021 are in AI, and the greater use of voice assistants such as Google Assistant and Alexa. Expect to see more smart wearables, which provide a direct link to voice assistant providers without having to access your phone. Bottom Line: Look to digitalize our lives more in 2021. Trend 3 Health, Wellness and Workplace safety Also, in the wake of COVID, healthcare and wellness are also seen as strong trends at the 2021 show. More so, this years’ companies feel technology can benefit or change society as well as providing products and services to help individuals and companies get back to the “new normal” safely. This includes smart air purifiers, water filtration systems and UV disinfecting lights as companies look to fill the demand. Bottom line: People are paying a lot more attention to their personal health and wellness, and the health and wellness environment of their home and workplace. And one more thing—Robots get more practicalCES 2021 finds robots taking on increased importance as ways to automate processes tied to COVID, maintaining social distancing, and serving as home companions and personal assistants. For example, in hospitals, robots are being used to take patients’ temperatures and vital signs as they come in and triage them accordingly, as well as disinfecting rooms using UV lights. A Show favorite is the South Korea’s Hancom Toki H2—one listed by Autoweek as “10 Cool Things from the Virtual CES—From flying cars to flexible dashboards.” Toki comes with many features and serves as a companion and personal assistant. The home robot allows for customized conversations between family members and users. It also actively engages in daily life based on facial recognition technology and educational content. Bottom Line: Looking into the year ahead we’ll find game changing robots serving in new roles at schools, hospitals, offices, gyms, and public transportation. So too, robots like Toki using AI can serve as interactive personal companions and assistants—the need for both public and private roles heightened under the pandemic. Questions? Comments? ### |

From 2021. If any organization can make sense of this new world of staying at home leave it up to the geniuses at CES to bring us a variety of global tech company “youtube” videos of their new products. I am “attending” the 2021 CES trade show even though I live in Las Vegas and look down from my balcony at the vacant convention center buildings. It’s so sad that I can’t actually wander the miles of hallways and experience the real CES like in the past. HOWEVER, the companies that normally participate have done an excellent job showcasing the latest and greatest high technology TV’s, household appliances, car gadgets, Artificial Intelligence (AI), health, and 5G innovations. My brain is on overload and thankfully I have a few more days to get through the video demonstrations – I really want to watch them all but I’m not sure I can manage between doing laundry, making happy hour appetizers to pair with different wines, buying online products, etc. You know, all the normal lockdown, stay at home activities…
