The 2023 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, Nev., officially opened, welcoming approximately 160,000 attendees to the four-day trade show held at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (Oct. 31, 2023) – The 2023 SEMA Show officially opened this morning, welcoming more than 2,200 exhibitors and approximately 160,000 attendees to the Las Vegas Convention Center campus to network and discover the next-generation products that will drive business success, industry growth, and the future of the aftermarket in the coming year.

The SEMA Show campus is overflowing with custom vehicles builds, interactive experiences and demonstrations, extensive networking opportunities and thousands of new products for buyers and exhibitors in search of the “next big thing” for their businesses.

“The connections made and relationships built here this week will set the course for our industry,” said Tom Gattuso, SEMA Vice President of Events. “The Show gives our members the opportunity to build those important relationships with fellow industry professionals, both on the show floor and at dozens of other events and ensure future success.”

The 2023 Show opens at a time of tremendous growth and optimism across the industry. A new SEMA Economic Impact Report recently found that the aftermarket industry contributes $337 billion to the American economy and creates 1.3 million jobs, employing more people than the U.S. aircraft industry and the entire motion picture and video production industry.

The industry is at the forefront of adopting policies and technologies that help reduce emissions from vehicles, fostering businesses that are on the forefront of change and innovation, while the Show serves as a critical annual platform to help small business grow, build partnerships and drive industry change.

These strong economic indicators are driving optimism among SEMA members. In the recently released SEMA State of the Industry Report, two-thirds of industry companies report stable or growing sales over the last year and 55 percent of manufacturers expect growth in the coming year.

“The incredible support for this year’s SEMA Show demonstrates that our industry is strong and thriving,” said SEMA President and CEO Mike Spagnola. “Our members, many of whom are small businesses, are true drivers of growth and prosperity in the United States.”

Attendees come to the SEMA Show from across the United States and around the world to make connections and discover the latest products that will power growth for their businesses. The New Products Showcase, relocated to North Hall, is a popular must-see for those seeking the latest and greatest innovations in styling and performance products from hundreds of start-ups and legendary exhibitors.

The SEMA Show is constantly evolving, a characteristic exemplified by the exhibitors. This year, more than 20 percent of the exhibitors are at SEMA for the first time, including Sandy Vans, a manufacturer of accessories and lifestyle products based in Chula Vista, Calif., that helps people get the most out of their vans and enjoy the outdoor adventurer lifestyle.

“SEMA isn’t just a trade show; it’s the pulse of the automotive industry, highlighting what’s next,” said Alan Mondus, Co-founder and CEO of Sandy Vans. “We’re truly excited and grateful to be joining SEMA for the first time and share our top-of-the-line van and exterior product line.”

Another can’t-miss exhibit is the SEMA FutureTech Studio, an expansive exhibit dedicated to renewable fuels, hybrid technology, sponsor vehicles, engaging discussions and education to keep members on the cutting edge.

Several automakers are also out in force at the Las Vegas Convention Center, including Ford EV, Ford Performance Parts & Accessories, Lexus, Nissan and Toyota. Several will be debuting new vehicle concepts, custom builds and new parts and accessories designed for enthusiasts to personalize their rides.

Other Show highlights include a robust education program, offering nearly 100 sessions on a wide variety of topics; the Shell “Performance Unbound” Experience, where attendees can engage with Shell scientists about the fuel maker’s new and improved premium gasoline; Optima Village, an action-packed Show favorite featuring celebrity driver appearances, demonstrations, amazing project vehicles and plenty of tire smoke; the Overland Experience moves outdoors and showcases the latest trends in off-road adventure vehicles and accessories; and SEMA Garage: ADAS, Emissions, Product Development, an expanded interactive exhibition with live demos and knowledge to help SEMA members develop high-quality, robust, compliant products.

Battle of the Builders, a prestigious competition of the best builders in the industry, celebrates its 10th anniversary with judging taking place throughout the week, and will narrow the field from 40 finalists to one ultimate winner announced on Friday, November 3, while connecting consumers through social media and a television show airing in January 2024. And as the SEMA Show draws to a close, SEMA Fest opens its doors, bringing enthusiasts from the music and automotive worlds together for two days of music, motorsports and car culture featuring 22 diverse musical acts on two stages, demonstrations from Formula DRIFT, Hoonigan and Nitro Circus, E-gaming and more.

Balboa Bay Club Members Attend Exclusive Fundraiser Debuting Unreleased John Lennon Documentary

Walking with Anthony held it’s “Come Together” charity fundraiser on Thursday, September 14 at the New Port Theater in Corona Del Mar, Ca.The event was hosted by Executive Producer and WWA Founder, Micki Purcell, along with Anthony Purcell and event chairs, Krissey Nardecchia and John Moroney. Sponsors included Flagstar Bank, Riviera Magazine, Fletcher Jones, JP Morgan, Macro Z Technology and Tito’s Handmade Vodka.

Walking With Anthony was formed by Micki and Anthony Purcell after Anthony dove into the ocean, bruising the C5 & C6 vertebrae in his spine leaving him paralyzed. Funds raised will be used to educate and raise awareness about the various obstacles that occur from spinal cord injuries (SCI). Many survivors struggle with depression and hopelessness alone.  Anthony knows first hand the emotional anguish that comes with SCI and has met with hundreds of his brothers and sisters in the SCI community and given them a sense of assurance and purpose they might never find without the help of Anthony and the foundation.

It was quite the scene with a red-carpet reception, Beatles Tribute Band (4 Lads from Liverpool), Cocktails, food, live auction, and a Hollywood style movie screening. The fascinating debut of “The Lost Weekend: A Love Story” recounts the romance between John Lennon and May Pang, his assistant. May Pang herself was on hand at the end of the screening to answer questions. The event raised over $170,000. Newport Beach International Boat Show (4/23)

Uh Oh, don’t drink too many cocktails at the boat show or you will end up buying Ed McMahon’s boat. Seriously, the Tonight Show’s co host owned a beautiful yacht, The Lady Katherine, and my parents ended up BUYING the boat long ago after several drinks at the boat show! This year’s event appears to be a spectacular display of products, yachts, services, and beautiful Newport Beach sailors (guys and gals…)

The Life Savers Foundation of Orange County Event

I try to say NO to new events, especially when asked to be on a COMMITTEE, God forbid, but I can never say no to Carole Pickup. Several years back she talked me into taking over for her as President of the 1221 Club – YIKES – I am still President to this day…anyway it turned out to be a fabulous event. Held at the Balboa Bay Resort on January 19, 2023 the funds raised will help living kidney/organ donors by providing them with financial assistance related to lost wages, lodging, travel, medical appointments and more. I am going to include this wonderful article in the Bay Window by Carole Pickup to describe the evening. She did a great job and the photos are from CHRIS DARNALL.

More favorites from CES

I was glad I made it to the Venetian to experience the massive CES exhibit halls. My goal was to find MOONBIKES, The World’s First Electric Snow bike. This was one of my favorite discoveries (even though I would NEVER do this) However, my son and nephews would love this. Another great product was perfect for my grandson Decker – a Disney Aladdin toy that can be custom made. I also loved the baby monitors. Oh AND I GOT A TATTOO ! It washed off but I showed it off to my pals and they thought it was real, ha ha!

Tattoos on the go from Plinker, the revolutionary printer that puts ink on your body, hair and eyebrow. How cool is that?

More from CES:

Here are some of my favorite exhibits/experiences/booths. I was amazed at the robots, the new electric vehicles, including high speed boats, bikes, and surf boards. I heard one of my favorite chefs, Jose Andes, talk about feeding the world when there is a natural disaster or other horrendous event (like the war in Ukraine)

A Robot making coffee with free samples…

We may need this in Catalina next summer, rescue me!!

CES “The Venetian”

To be honest – I am too tired from walking over 13,000 steps yesterday and at least that many today to do a proper job of showing you all of the amazing technology of this CES show…but here are some very early photos. Today I made the trek over to the Venetian Resort Convention Center and was SOOOO glad I did. I also got a tattoo (temporary) and found my friend Alexa in the Amazon showroom. I Promise to upload more photos tomorrow.

If you want some fun short videos of my TESLA trip around the loop (thanks to Elon Musk) and my favorite bartender MIKEY adding smoke to an old fashioned see my http://www.kathyhamilton.blog and scroll down to the TikTok section.
